Holiday in Munich in winter

Munich is worth a trip at any time of the year, but in the winter the Bavarian capital has a special charm.

From Christmas markets and open air ice rinks to romantic cafés and interesting exhibitions, Munich has to offer a lot.

Ice skating

Ice magic

As a special ice rink we recommend the ice magic at Karlsplatz / Stachus (center town), with a 750 square metres ice surface, which is rebuilt every year. Enjoy the pleasure of skating and a warming hot wine punch in the middle of Munich.

From November 18th, 2016 to January 15th, 2017 you can ice-skate on Munich's largest open air iceskating area, whether young or old, single or family. The Munich ice magic offers a varied weekly program. This, among other things, consists of:

  • "Ice skating with music"
  • "After Work on Ice"
  • "Traditional costume on Ice"
  • "Almparty"

Ice rink "Prinzregentenbad" / "Olympia Ice Sports Centre":

In addition to the ice magic at the Stachus, you can also pursue this winter sport in the Prinzregentenbad or Olympia Ice Sports Centre.

The Olympia Ice Sports Centre has a disco evenings on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The entrance fees for adults are € 5.50 (normal operation: € 4.50), € 3.50 (€ 3.00) for children up to 16 years and children up to 6 years are free of charge. In all 3 locations you can rent skates, the price is around 6.00 €.

From our hotel you can reach them by tram and suburban train within half an hour.

There are approximately 42 curbstones in Munich and the surrounding area. There, not only professionals, but also beginners, whether old or young, meet in these sociable places together to enjoy the advantages of the winter.

Curling in front of the Nymphenburg Palace

Winterholiday Munich – Curling in front of the Nymphenburg Palace The most beautiful place for curling is on the canal in front of the Nymphenburg Palace. In front of a fairytale scenery you can pursue this winter sports with hot wine punch to warm up and snacks.
Thanks to the floodlight system you can use the tracks as well as the equipment, which you can all book for a small fee, from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm. You can reach the canal in front of the Nymphenburg Palace in 45 minutes by using public transport.

Parkcafé ice rink

Another popular place for curling is the beer garden of the Parkcafé behind the old Botanical Garden. After the beer banks were cleared out of the way, a 25-meter-long ice rink was built. For refreshment there is not beer and pretzels in the winter, but crêpes and hot wine punch in a city alpine cabin. The highlight is the annual Eisstock Olympiade, as usual in Bavaria, in traditional costume.

The Parkcafé can be reached within half an hour by public transport from the hotel.

We will be pleased to provide you information about further curling rinks in and around Munich directly or at our hotel reception.

Christmas Markets

Munich's Christmas markets are just as diverse as Munich. From the classic, romantic Christkindlesmarkt on the Marienplatz, over the medieval Christmas Market at Wittelsbacher Platz to "Pink Christmas", the pink Christmas Market at Stephansplatz.

Christmas Market Marienplatz

Winterholiday Munich – Christmas Market Marienplatz On and around the Marienplatz there is offered very much. The stalls lure with craftsmanship, Christmas decorations, delicious gingerbread and hot wine punch. The evening advent music and the huge Christmas tree with 4000 candles privide for the beautiful Christmas mood.

There is also something for children. In the children's workshop, children between 6 and 12 years can tinker, bake and work every day. The highlight is the Nikolaus, who distributes apples, nuts and almonds every day. The children 's eyes shine!

Medieval Christmas Market

When you stroll over the medieval Christmas Market at the Wittelsbacher Park, you feel as if you were back in time. Knights, noble women and minstrels are reigning there!

The "Pink Christmas" Market is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. At the tenth gay-lesbian Christmas Market, one of the smallest in Munich, a special stage program is offered every day.
