Hannover’s old town captivates visitors with its mix of half-timbered houses, which have been rebuilt after the war, and modern post-war buildings. Right in the center of the historic old town are the Alte Rathaus (Old Town Hall) and the Marktkirche – two masterpieces of North German brick gothic architecture.
Other popular sights of Hannover are the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen with Berggarten, the Grotto by Niki de Saint Phalle, Herrenhausen Palace and Grosser Garten. Additional points of interest are Maschsee and modern buildings like the Gehry Tower, the Administration Building of the NORD/LB and the HID-Arena, home of football club Hannover 96.
Sights like Hannover Zoo, Sea Life Center, Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall) and Eilenriede (municipal forest) can be reached by foot or public transport. In close distance to the hotel is the Hauptgüterbahnhof – the past main rail freight depot – which nowadays hosts a supermarket for Italian specialities, a bistro, a bouldering gym, a fitness studio and an indoor trampoline park.
